Some Important Info - What do you need to set up a non-profit? The most important decision you have to make is YOUR NAME!!! Once you start processing your paperwork with the state your name is set. If you decide to change your name during the initial process it WILL cost you an additional $50 and it may also cause a problem with your filing that will result in delays of finalizing your status. If for example the initial list of officers is late in getting filed due to a name change request, you will be charge a $50 late fee and your non-profit status will be in default until you either pay another late fee or resolve the issue with the state clerks. This will require a phone call to the state clerks office and possibly a follow up of mailing or faxing all of your documentation to them to confirm when you sent your paperwork to them and how you paid for your fees.
Another very important must do is to MAKE COPIES OF EVERYTHING!!! Once you send of your paperwork to the state there is no going back and having copies of everything even mailing receipts will save a lot of time and headaches if there is a problem. |
Non-Profit Corporation Set Up - Are you confused by the language used on the Secretary of State's web page to set up a Non-Profit Corporation? Does the IRS web site make you feel like a grade school student? Don't let companies that say they can set up a non-profit and 501(c)3 for you as easy as 1 2 3 rip you off. The filing fee in the State of NV to set up a non-profit is $100 and covers the NV State Non-Profit Articles of Incorporation, your initial List of Officers and your NV State Charitable Solicitation Registration. Your IRS EIN (Employee Identification Number) is free once you get your State Non-Profit articles filed. Your IRS 501c3 NonProfit filing is $275 and is done online. Many people don't know that Nevada is the easiest and one of the least expensive States in the country to file for a Corporation of any kind. If you live in another State and want to file for a Nevada Non-Profit all you need is a State Resident Agent to be your representative. If you live in Nevada you are the resident agent. Meet with me or set up a phone conference call and we can have a two hour consultation on what is needed to get started and how I can help you.

If you are looking for someone to help you obtain a grant contact me to discuss your goals. Most foundations require the following documentation: Copy of IRS 501c3 letter Current State List of Officers EIN Current 990 tax form Project Outline and Budget Items Social Media Management - Social Media Management - Trained in the management of Social Media since 2005. I have worked with for profit and non-profit organizations promoting their products and services with much success. All services are given my personal attention. Set up and management will include posting events, scheduling repetitive posts depending on content, and updating information per page owner. Web Site Set Up & Maintenance - The hardest or most important part of developing a web site and maintaining it is the communication between the client and the editor. With email, Skype, messenger and other electronic forms of contact this can be accomplished with ease and speed. The process I use is to find out some information on my clients such as their favorite color (to personalize the website), the type of site wanted (store, blog posting, personal group, memorial etc.), if they will eventually want to maintain the site themselves and whether they are a using the site as non-profit or a for-profit or just a fun project. Here is a sample of the questions I generally ask a new client: 1) Your favorite color or the color you want for your organization. 2) Background preference - plain, nature, graphic or something else. 3) Menu at top or on the side. 4) Do you have a logo of some kind and if so can you email me jpg. or gif. 5) This is not so much of a question as it is information. If you go pro you get actual PayPal or CC account access for clients to pay/doante to you thru you site. If you want to try the free site for a while you can set up your own PayPal access easily as long as you have an account already without using weebly. 6) Do you want to have a testimonial page. 7) Is the site going to grow extensively or on an as needed basis. Website set up an maintenance is $15 per hour. I also work on a bartering system meaning if you are setting up a page to sell items that are home made or artistic items, I am always open to work on a trade basis. My contact page will give you a way to let me know if you are interested in a personalized quote. There are two ways to have a website set up and maintained: 1) Use my account as your hosting service at a low yearly rate. This option will also give you complete access to your site should you want to do your own editing and also gives you the ability to download an archive file for safe keeping. 2) Set up your own account either using Weebly's free domain or by purchasing a domain name from Namecheap.com and paying for your own hosting thru Weebly using your email address and password, then you can add me as editor which gives me access. Nothing is published without prior approval of the client. Weebly charges $144 minimum a year for hosting a pro site which will give you all the functions needed. Weebly prices do increase, mine will always stay the same. Data Base Management - Keeping track of the animals you bring into your rescue is very important for many reasons. You will need this information to apply for grants, post on your website so donors and those looking to become donors can see your successes and also to provide full transparency to others in the rescue world. There are several online data management software programs out there that say they are easy. to use, set up and also transfer information to other sites such as Adopt A Pet. Buyer beware! They are not that easy to set up or maintain. I have learned from experience that a simple excel spreadsheet is the easiest way to keep track of your animals. Posting your animals on pet finding websites is also easy as pie. To put the important information into a spreadsheet and post pictures and a good bio on a finder site takes approximately 20 minutes per animal. Partnerships For Events and Grants - There are many foundations, organizations and corporations who support non-profits and most of them require that you become a partner. This process requires the nonprofit submit information such as your Articles of Incorporation, List of Officers, By-Laws, IRS 501c3 letter of determination and much more. Most partnership applications take 3 hours to set up and confirm. Without these partnerships many grants are not available to you. |
